After the Water Festival and the arrival of shiny Pokemon, players have been anxiously awaiting what Niantic will do next. It appears that Niantic has something big underway.
Pokémon Go Cooporative Raids are coming to the game. According to a blog post on the Pokemon Go website, Niantic announced that ““all new cooperative social gameplay experiences” were coming to the game:
“We continue to be inspired by the passion of the 65+ million people from around the world playing Pokémon GO each month. We’re still at the beginning of the journey and there’s a lot more to come. With spring arriving in the northern hemisphere, players can look forward to all new cooperative social gameplay experiences in Pokémon GO that will give Trainers new and exciting reasons to get back into the sunshine.”
It is unclear what exactly this will entail but it may have something to do with the Mewtwo encounter in Times Square that was shown in the original Pokemon Go trailer. It is also likely that the events will be related to gym battles as some dataminers found new secrets in the new update according to Forbes:
“Dataminers found a number of key phrases implying changes to gyms were coming, where players will now receive notifications about their “away” Pokémon and their gym status, and there also may be a new mechanic where players must return to gyms to feed their Pokémon in order for them to stay.
But one final item of note was found in the patch that players have yet to fully decipher. It’s a simple pair of phrases that say something along the lines of “A raid is starting nearby!”
Given that the other items in this patch have to do with gyms, the immediate thought was that maybe there will be a new mechanic that will be a sort of call to arms among teammates from Valor/Instinct/Mystic. You can send out a local message that says you’re about to attack an enemy gym, and perhaps other players will join you.”
Here’s what BGR speculates:
“Although Niantic doesn’t specifically refer to the cooperative experiences as raids, code has appeared within the game that suggests the popular feature from Ingress (the company’s first mobile game) will arrive for Pokemon Go within the next few months. Allowing multiple players to attack or defend gyms cooperatively would go a long way to overhauling the system and drawing old players back in to the game.”
Though we may not know what this raids will be like, we know that it’s going to change the game for the better. Keep checking back for more updates!
